The World Walks for Water is a global event raising public awareness of the world’s current water and sanitation crisis, prompting government action to prevent the shocking 4000 child deaths daily.
In our increasingly sedentary culture it’s hard to believe that millions of people still walk 6 kilometres every day just to collect water for their basic needs. Billions of people don’t even have access to a toilet, and this lack of water and basic sanitation is a major cause of disease and consequently poverty.
March 22nd 2011 is World Water Day, and during this period thousands of people are invited to walk 6 kilometres together to prompt action to end this basic human injustice.
